Bingo News: UK Bingo Tax Reduction

March 27, 2010 – The gambling industry of the United Kingdom, particularly with the grounds of UK Bingo sites, were certainly blissful since the latest announcement regarding the UK budget this week. According to the statements of the Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling, duties of UK Bingo sites will be reduced by 2 points to 20% starting from the last week of March. However, duties for industries that foster alcohol and tobacco will unfortunately increase beginning this week.

Notwithstanding from the tax reduction benefited by the online bingo industry, other offshore gambling operators are now starting to express their concerns. Some of them—offshore operators that are licensed from their designated jurisdictions—are requesting to allow them in promoting or advertising their brands within UK. The idea of Secondary Licensing for these offshore gambling operators is now emerging, principally initiated by British Government divisions such as the Department of Culture, Media and Sports.

This could probably be a good step for UK’s gambling industry to continue in expanding its market as well as the taxes being paid by offshore operators.
